A five (5) Member City Council and Mayor, who are elected, on a non-partisan basis, for four-year terms of office, govern Clear Lake. The job of Mayor, City Council and the City departments is to provide services to the residents of Clear Lake. City elections are held the 1st Tuesday in November during every odd-numbered year.
Clear Lake operates under a Mayor-Council form of Government. The principle of this type of government is that the Council sets policy and the routine administration of City business is carried out by an appointed City Administrator and the City staff. You are encouraged to contact your elected official or the City staff whenever you have a question or problem involving local government.
Clear Lake is divided into three (3) sections or wards. One Council member represents each ward and two at-large members represent the entire City. The following is a listing of the Mayor and each Council Member's respective ward.

City Council meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Clear Lake City Hall, 15 North 6th Street, Clear Lake, Iowa. The public is invited to attend. One of the first items on each agenda is Citizens' Presentations, and you may bring any concerns to the Council at this time.
